How to Appeal a Denial from Social Security Quickly and Properly
If Social Security denies your application for disability benefits, you must file an appeal – called a request for reconsideration – within 60 days from the date you received the denial notice. Similarly, if Social Security denies you reconsideration appeal, you only have 60 days to request a hearing.
As I discuss in this video, however, you may miss your 60 day deadline and not realize until it is too late that there is a problem.
I have personally represented a client whose denial notice was dated in January, but not mailed until March. He filed his appeal within 60 days of his receipt of the denial but Social Security dismissed his claim on the grounds of an untimely filing.
Other clients want to appeal but they don’t know where to find the right forms to appeal or where to send them.

Your appeal forms should be mailed or hand delivered to the Social Security office listed on your denial notice. I recommend that you file your appeal as soon as possible after receiving your denial and that you should appeal within 60 days from the date on the denial letter.
